Steven Knight, the creator of the hit series Peaky Blinders, has announced plans to open a studio in Los Angeles, aiming to bring the essence of Birmingham’s Digbeth Loc Studios to the US. Knight envisions this expansion as a way to showcase the talents of filmmakers from the Midlands and enhance the global reach of his productions.
Knight shared his vision with the BBC, stating, “I’m going to open a Digbeth Loc Studio here where people can experience what we’re doing in Birmingham.” The move aligns with the upcoming production of the Peaky Blinders film, which will explore the Shelby family's journey into World War Two, with Barry Keoghan recently joining the cast.

The new studio in LA will feature exhibits, pictures, and videos highlighting the work from the Birmingham-based studio, offering a glimpse into the creative process behind the series. Filming for the Peaky Blinders movie will take place at various locations around Birmingham and the West Midlands, including the Black Country Living Museum.
In addition to the studio launch, Knight has initiated a four-week training program in Birmingham, aimed at nurturing new film industry talent. Thirteen trainees have completed the Kudos Knight Scripted Production Training initiative, gaining valuable skills and confidence for their careers in film.
Knight emphasized the importance of reflecting diversity in the industry and supporting local talent. “It’s crucial to ensure this is an industry that truly represents and employs people from the city,” he said.
