In a thrilling turn of events, the Mega Millions jackpot, estimated at $800 million, was won in Tuesday night’s drawing. The winning ticket was purchased in Texas.

The drawn numbers were 1, 2, 16, 24, and 66, with the gold Mega Ball being 6. The Megaplier was 4X. This jackpot ranks as the seventh-largest in Mega Millions history.

In addition to the jackpot, four players from California, Florida, New York, and Washington matched all five white balls, each winning $1 million.

The $800 million prize offers a one-time cash option of $404.2 million, which is commonly chosen over the annuity option, which provides an immediate payment followed by 29 annual installments.

The odds of hitting the grand prize are 1 in 302,575,350. Prior to Tuesday’s drawing, the Mega Millions jackpot had not been won since June 4, when an Illinois player claimed $552 million, marking the 10th-largest jackpot in the game’s history.

The largest Mega Millions jackpot ever, $1.602 billion, was won in Florida on August 8, 2023. This remains the third-largest lottery prize ever won on a single ticket, following two massive Powerball jackpots of $2.04 billion and $1.765 billion won in California in recent years.

The next Mega Millions drawing will take place on Friday, with an estimated $20 million jackpot and a cash option of $10.1 million. Tickets are available in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands, with the purchase deadline at 9:45 p.m. on drawing nights.
