Actor and TVK chief Vijay has been served a fatwa by the All India Muslim Jamaat (AIMJ), urging Muslims not to support him following concerns raised over his portrayal of Muslims and the nature of guests at his Iftar gathering.
The fatwa, issued by AIMJ president Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, criticizes Vijay for depicting Muslims negatively in his films and inviting individuals involved in gambling and alcohol consumption to his recent Iftar party.

"He has formed a political party and maintained cordial relations with Muslims. However, he has portrayed Muslims as terrorists in his films," Razvi said. He added that the guests at the Iftar event, including gamblers and alcoholics, further angered Sunni Muslims in Tamil Nadu. This prompted calls for a fatwa, which Razvi issued, advising Muslims to distance themselves from Vijay.
The controversy comes after allegations that Vijay and his party sought Y-category security from the Centre, citing potential threats from the Muslim community. "Vijay showed Muslims in poor light in his films 'Kathi' and 'Beast'. So, Vijay and TVK feared threats from Muslims and requested protection from the Home Ministry," said VCK spokesperson Vanniarasu.
However, TVK and its ally, the Tamil Nadu Muslim League, have denied these claims, calling them a political tactic by DMK and its allies to drive a wedge between Muslims and TVK.
