Donald Trump is set to attend Super Bowl LIX this Sunday, marking a historic moment as the first sitting U.S. president to ever attend the event. The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the highly anticipated matchup in New Orleans.
While presidents have historically avoided attending the big game, Trump’s visit will make him the first sitting president to break this tradition. Over the years, several vice presidents have attended Super Bowl games, including Al Gore, who watched the 1994 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills, and George H.W. Bush, who attended the 1982 game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Trump is also scheduled to make an appearance in a pregame interview with Fox News' Bret Baier. The interview, set to air at 3 p.m. ET during the network's pregame show, will be Trump's first major broadcast interview ahead of a Super Bowl since leaving office. This marks the first presidential pregame interview in three years, with former President Joe Biden opting out of similar interviews in 2023 and 2024.
Trump has notably rejected NBC News interviews in the past, favoring Fox News, where he sat down for interviews with Bill O'Reilly in 2017 and Sean Hannity in 2020.
Given the significance of Trump's attendance, security at the Caesars Superdome will be heightened. The Secret Service has coordinated extensive planning to ensure the safety of all attendees, players, and staff. “This year, security measures have been further enhanced to accommodate the presence of a sitting president at the event,” said Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
With increased security and heightened attention, Trump's attendance at Super Bowl LIX is set to make history both on and off the field.
